Cornwall Acoustics have
worked alongside many different organizations both large and small.
Here is a sample of some of the projects in which we have been involved.
Building Acoustics
Highgrove Homes
We have worked with Highgrove Homes on several large projects, the most
notable being the Anchor Development in Penryn, and Sea View in Falmouth.
We gave advice, specified construction detail, visited during construction
to ensure conformity and carried out the final sound insulation tests.

L2 Limited – Corn Exchange
L2 Limited employed our services during the refurbishment of the Corn
Exchange Night Club and Sports bar. The club had been closed under the
previous ownership, due impart to noise complaints from residents and
action taken by the local authority.
We designed and specified sound control measures for the night club
element, which included a new ceiling to minimize noise breakout. As yet
the club has operated for over a year with no complaints related to events
held in this part of the building.

Conversion of a Victorian house (Bude)
An old 3 storey Victorian house was being converted into a bed and
breakfast. This meant that each guest room was effectively a room for
residential use and each separating wall/ floor had to meet the
requirements of the approved document. The problem was compounded by
internal load bearing studs which were off set and the entrance doors to
the rooms were in close proximity. Using normal building materials we
achieved fantastic results:
Separating walls: DnTw+Ctr 49 - 56dB
Separating floors: DnTw+Ctr 55 dB

Environmental Assessments, Measurement and Control.
St Austell Brewery
We have been employed by St Austell Brewery who operate 163 pubs and
hotels (not including those managed, leased or with tenants) to deal with
various issues such as;
Provision of supporting information for planning applications; in
particular for kitchen extraction systems and chiller units.
Gave advice and specified control measures where noise complaints had been
received.
Conducted noise assessments, made recommendations and acted as an expert
witness during a Public Entertainment Licensing Appeal.

Kerrier District Council
Cornwall Acoustics assessed noise emanating from the Clock Tower bell in
St Day, devised and implemented control measures. This was a difficult
case because nearby residents were being exposed to night time noise
levels which caused excessive sleep disturbance, whilst the rest of the
village found the noise ‘comforting’ and didn’t want the level to change.
Fortunately a compromise was achieved and there have been no complaints
since.

The Old Mill House Inn Polperro
Due to an alleged noise nuisance arising from entertainment events held at
the above property, an abatement notice (under the provisions of the
Environmental Protection Act 1990) was served on the owners. We appealed
the notice on several grounds and carried out control measures to
attenuate the noise. The local authority withdrew the notice in agreement
with the owners of the Old Mill House Inn before the appeal was due to be
heard in the local magistrate’s court.

Carrick District Council
Development Control
We have acted as expert witnesses on behalf of Carrick District Council
during a high profile planning appeal
Gave advice to the Planning Department and Council Members to help them
consider a planning application for a new residential block in Events
Square Falmouth.

Environmental Health
We have worked closely with Environmental Health assisting in several
nuisance investigations. Sometimes it can be difficult to conclude long
standing investigations and an impartial, independent enquiry can often
resolve matters quickly and satisfactorily.
Local Authorities can make substantial financial savings using this
approach, especially with regard to officer and members’ time.
